Excel in performance
Itrax XRF Scanner MC is a new construction dedicated to scanning of samples for chemical elements from Na and all the way up to Uranium in drill cores. It can also be used to scan sediment cores, and regardless of sample type, it offers the highest available scan speed combined with very good sensitivity across the whole range of chemical elements. It is our latest construction, featuring cutting edge XRF with excellent performance, so that all found elements from bulk to trace level are determined in the best possible way and at the same time, even when the XRF is challenged by a highly variable sample matrix.
Dedicated to volume scanning
This scanner is designed for routine scanning of large volumes of cores, offering smooth core handling and batch job support. MC stands for Multi Core, and this scanner can be loaded with a set of cores, whether in a core box or not. Cores with a length up to 1250 millimeters and a diameter up to 127 millimeters are accepted. An added sample width of up to 450 millimeters can be inserted at the time.
Cutting edge XRF
Itrax XRF scanners provides chemical element data that have a documented good accordance with traditional XRF analysis. Add to this the speed of analysis as well as the minimized sample preparation that Itrax XRF scanning offers, saving so much time. A drill core can be scanned with good results without further sample preparation. Scan speed is optimized by the short time needed for a reliable measurement, and by the continuous, non contact scanning where no stopping at each point to move the scan head up and down is required. And all elements of interest are determined simultaneously in one analysis, and with highest sensitivity. This removes the need for time consuming multiple analyses at different voltages. The ability to determine Na is also important for good quantitative results, along with the given position of Na in Ternary plots.
Adapted to cores
Itrax XRF Scanner MC can scan along a sample, without missing any part along a sample. It can also be programmed to do perform different sections of a scan along parallel tracks, in order to avoid sample parts that contain damages, etc. Each instrument is equipped with XRF and a RGB optical camera that registers detailed sample images. A laser distance meter determines the sample topography, allowing for analyses that have correct distance to the sample surface at each and every increment.
Highest speed with variable increments
When in-depth scans with increments at millimeter level or less are in focus, Itrax offers a unique, cutting edge feature where the analytical speed and performance is maintained when increment size is decreased. For the XRF scanner MC, this means that the vert short measuring time of one second per increment can be applied from centimeter increments and all the way down to 1 millimeter steps. In this range, the increment size has no impact on the speed/data quality ratio. Further improved resolution can be achieved by inserting a slit that limits the beam size.
Ready for more than cores
The Itrax XRF Scanner MC is also equipped for analysis of tablets and powder samples in plastic cups, like in the photo below:
Batches of powder samples and pressed tablets can be analyzed for elements concentrations in powdered material, e.g. from hammer drilling. The software supports bar code, QR code and several other formats of sample tagging.
Strong software support
Another key feature of this scanner is that it is delivered with robust software for element quantification. It can handle large shifts in sample matrices and still deliver good quality quantitative estimates for any concentration from trace level and up to the amounts found in mining and matrix elements. The software is straightforward and easy to use, while still flexible with user controlled analytical settings. Standard batch job settings can be stored in order to make it easy to initiate a standard batch job. Software for data display is included.
Overview or detail
The analytical resolution is variable from 10-1 millimeter for maximum flexibility, so that the scanner can be adapted to different requirements. Standard XRF scan time for mineral drill cores is 100 seconds per meter, allowing for fast yet precise scans where the data can be described as amount per meter of the determined elements. Detailed scans, like required for sedimentary materials in petroleum applications, only take a few seconds per analytical point to determine all elements from Na-U.
